Longfellow Neighborhood

Applied Energy Innovations installed this 3.4 kW solar electric system in the Minneapolis’ Longfellow neighborhood in May of 2013. The system’s owner invested in solar to help fight climate change. AEI installed 18 190-watt PV modules for a total system rating of 3,420 watts. We expect the system to produce over 3,636 kWh per year on average, or about 51% of the family’s average household usage. Producing 3,636 kWh of electricity annually from coal emits about 7,563 pounds of carbon dioxide. Preventing this much carbon dioxide from being released to the atmosphere is equivalent to adding 1746 trees to our forests. Over a 25-year span, AEI expects this system will offset 150,000 pounds or 75 tons of carbon dioxide.
